For a 4 to 7 year old, the best logic game puts puzzles inside something a child cares about and grows with them. We rank Jupo World first for an ad-free logic adventure for ages 4 to 7, Thinkrolls first for pure puzzles for the youngest players, and Lightbot Jr first for a first step into coding.

How we chose

  • Real reasoning: the child wins by working something out, not by speed.
  • Steps up slowly: rules arrive one at a time and difficulty adapts.
  • Plays without reading for ages 4 to 7.
  • Nothing pulling them away: no ads, no chat, no purchases a child can reach.
  • Variety: patterns, paths, rules and planning, not one puzzle type.

The list

1. Jupo World

Logic games inside a castle world: matching, memory, path-finding and planning, plus games where chess pieces are characters with their own way of moving. Difficulty adapts, and the games are built on Judit Polgár's Chess Palace method.

  • Best for: children who enjoy a story and characters around their puzzles.
  • Watch out for: the full world needs a subscription, and some games are about movement or feelings rather than logic.

2. Thinkrolls

Logic puzzles for ages 2 to 8 from Avokiddo: children roll characters through mazes, moving and combining objects to clear the path.

  • Best for: the youngest puzzle fans who like trying things out.
  • Watch out for: the subscription version holds most of the content.

3. Think!Think!

Puzzles and mazes designed by maths competition authors, with free play capped at 10 minutes a day.

  • Best for: a daily puzzle habit.
  • Watch out for: a subscription for longer play.

4. LogicLike

Thousands of logic puzzles for ages 4 to 8, from patterns and odd-one-out pictures to spatial puzzles, grid puzzles and beginner chess puzzles.

  • Best for: children who want a lot of puzzles of many kinds.
  • Watch out for: some puzzles need reading.

5. Lightbot Jr

A coding puzzle game designed for ages 4 to 8: children give a robot commands in order to solve each level, using sequences, loops and procedures across 42 levels. One price, no in-app purchases.

  • Best for: a first step into coding logic.
  • Watch out for: 42 levels go quickly for some children.

6. Code Karts

A pre-coding game from Edoki Academy where children place direction bricks to steer a kart to the finish, with switches that act like "if-then" rules, across more than 70 levels.

  • Best for: early sequencing for preschoolers.
  • Watch out for: the full game needs a one-off unlock.

7. Khan Academy Kids

A free early-learning app for ages 2 to 8 with logic, maths and reading activities among thousands of others.

  • Best for: free, broad learning that includes logic.
  • Watch out for: logic is one strand of many.

8. Kahoot! Numbers by DragonBox

Number puzzles where numbers are characters that combine and split, building number sense.

  • Best for: children who are into numbers.
  • Watch out for: needs a Kahoot! Kids subscription or a one-off purchase.

9. Montessori Preschool

Montessori-based activities for ages 3 to 7, including early coding and maths alongside reading.

  • Best for: Montessori families.
  • Watch out for: broad preschool content more than logic alone.

10. Monument Valley

A beautiful puzzle game from ustwo games where you guide a princess through impossible buildings. It was not made for young children, but many 7 and 8 year olds enjoy it with a parent.

  • Best for: older children and playing together.
  • Watch out for: some levels are hard for under 8s alone.
